Love at First Date Better Date than Never (Audible Audio Edition) Susan Hatler Martha Lee Books Reviews
Last month I did a book blast for Love At First Date by Susan Hatler. At the time I just didn't get a chance to read the story yet. Let me just say I really enjoyed this quick read. So, I'm going to share the story and my thoughts together.
Dating can be pretty rough with so many factors that can wreak havoc on humankind. Which is the reason Ellen decided to forgo looking for someone in the bar or coffee shop, no she decided to take her chances on an online dating site. With so many of those sites up and running the chances of finding your ideal mate seems likely to happen, right? This is Helen's thinking. She believes that she has found her possible Mr. Right between these two guys she has been chatting up a storm on line jusUnME and lookn4luv. Sounds like winners.
However, life doesn't always play fair or the heart. When she ends up dog sitting for a friend, she meets Henry. Henry just seems to make her heart go pitter-patter. Yet, she's dead set on finding her ideal mate using the online website. Let's forgo what feels right and go for statistics, like that always works when it comes to love.
Honestly, I thought this story was really cute. I adore Ellen her goal to avoid being like her mother who hasn't had too much love in love. Then you have adorable Henry who is adorable and not even sure he has a chance with Ellen. So, if you are looking for a cute quick read, you might want to read Love At First Date.
Rating 4.5Stars
Love at First Date is a novella (150-pages) with definitely a light mood, as any angst are resolved with awkward laughs.
Ellen needed someone to be compatible with her. She does not want to emulate her mother who's always on a different man that's not compatible. She took a whole month to narrow her online dating prospects down to a list of just two. When her dog-sitting for a friend went very wrong, she met Henry at a local vet who saved the not-her-dog. Ellen knew she must know more about Henry, so she signed up for dog obedience school using the not-her-dog. Now Ellen is conflicted... should she date the ones she deemed compatible like her head dictates... or should she go for Henry like her heart dictates? And what happens when her disguise was exposed?
Ah, light-hearted rom-com that's short, sweet, and NOT insta-lust. If you need a "pick-me-up" that's not full of angst, Susan Hatler delivers. The characters are not very deep, but they don't have to be.
Ellen is at her thirties, but still single and wary of guys. After her mom's three divorces, she realizes that to be compatible and in sync with a guy is what she needs to get involved in a relationship. So she joins Detailed Dating, an online dating service that measures the compatibility of searchers and searchees. And she gets two matches and will soon be dating one of them.
Rachel, her best friend and office mate gets a date and asks her for a favor - doggie-sitting her dog Chester, who recently chewed on her beautiful black boots. When Chesters seems to have swallowed something, she takes the dog to the nearest vet and meets Henry, the most mysterious man she has ever known. He has recently rescued a dog and names her Kenzie and they're doing an obedience training. He is good-looking, smiles a lot, helps her with training and is fun to be with. What's not to love? Ellen's clearly smitten with the guy, but she doesn't want anything to do with him because he's a complete stranger. She doesn't like asking too many questions about a guy, unless it's all stated in Detailed Dating.
Until Ellen finally gets to date her matches. Until all she thinks about is Henry and his mysterious ways. Until she learns from Rachel that he's not going to get in touch with her again. Bummer!
I love this short story so much. I wish it was longer, though. I love Ellen and her eccentric ways and her naivety. Sure, she's quite closed-minded sometimes, heck, she even annoys me with her compulsive thinking and over-the-top assumptions about Henry. But there's something about her that I found charming about her. I like how she stands her ground and balances her choices, I like how she acts like an awkward teenager when she's around Henry. She's a doll!
I'm liking short stories lately. They satisfy me at some point and makes me think outside the box. I've read some books by Susan Hatler and I always find myself laughing and feeling like a lovestruck idiot in the end, but I don't care. I gotta hand it to Susan, she's the queen of short rom-coms and she deserves it.
